DESAM Flags Shortcomings at Manipur College, Questions Four-Year ITEP Implementation
DESAM raises concerns over infrastructure and faculty shortages at Manipur College, questioning the planning and implementation of the four-year ITEP in Manipur.

IMPHAL: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has raised concerns over infrastructure and faculty shortages at Manipur College, Singjamei, questioning the preparedness of the institution and the state’s higher education system to implement the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).
During an inspection visit to the college, DESAM president Oinam Romesh told the media that several classrooms and laboratories remain inadequate despite the institution being located in the Chief Minister’s constituency. He questioned why the college’s infrastructure had not been improved despite repeated appeals.
DESAM also expressed concern over the implementation of the four-year ITEP, alleging that the programme was introduced without sufficient infrastructure, faculty strength and proper planning.
The organisation further questioned how students completing the four-year programme would pursue the mandatory one-year postgraduate course, pointing to the limited number of colleges offering the required facility.
DESAM’s concerns have brought attention to questions surrounding institutional readiness, infrastructure development and the availability of academic pathways for students under the new teacher education programme.
