AMAWOVA Calls for Collective Resistance Against Centre’s Policies in Manipur
Women’s body alleges ‘divide and rule’ policy, urges unity to safeguard Manipur’s future

Imphal, October 29, 2026: All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) president Wangkhem Ebema has called for collective resistance against the policies of the Central government, alleging that the people of Manipur continue to suffer from a lack of dignity, security and lasting peace.
Ebema made the statement while speaking to the media on the sidelines of a protest programme held at Lamphel Sanakeithel on Thursday.
The protest was organised jointly by five organisations — AMUCO, AMAWOVA, Porei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), the Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and MSF — as part of their ongoing protest programmes at different locations across the state.
During the interaction, Ebema alleged that the Centre was attempting to weaken and divide Manipur through a “divide and rule” policy, creating distrust and hostility among the state's different communities.
She asserted that the people of Manipur would not accept any attempt to fragment the state or undermine its unity.
Questions Raised Over Security Forces
Questioning the role of Central security forces deployed in Manipur, Ebema said that if the forces assigned to protect the people were unable to ensure their safety, they should leave the state.
She further alleged that the people of Manipur had been unable to enjoy a peaceful and dignified life since India took control of the state, claiming that successive policies had contributed to prolonged suffering.
Her remarks reflected the concerns raised by the participating organisations over the prevailing situation and the role of the Central government in addressing the state's challenges.
Appeal for Unity and Collective Action
Calling for greater unity among the people, Ebema urged the public to collectively resist the policies and measures being pursued by the Centre.
She stressed that a united movement was necessary to protect the interests of the people, safeguard the future of coming generations and ensure lasting peace and a dignified life in Manipur.
The five organisations have continued their protest programmes at different locations across the state, raising concerns over the prevailing political and security situation.
The allegations against the Central government and security forces reflect the position expressed by the protest organisers.
