Former COCOMI Convenor Calls for End to ‘Proxy War’ and Restoration of Peace in Manipur
Former COCOMI Convenor Khuraijam Athouba calls for an end to what he terms a proxy war and urges efforts to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.

IMPHAL: Khuraijam Athouba, former Convenor and current consultative member of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), has reiterated the demand for an end to what he described as a “proxy war” allegedly being carried out by the Government of India among indigenous communities.
Athouba called for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur, stating that lasting peace would require addressing the ongoing conflict and ending what COCOMI terms a proxy war.
He said the ethnic conflict, which has continued in Manipur since May 2023, has widened in its impact, with Naga communities also being drawn into the situation.
Alleging that the developments reflected an expansion of the conflict, Athouba reiterated COCOMI’s position that the Government of India must take steps to bring the situation to an end.
He stressed that peace and normalcy could be restored only through efforts to address the prevailing conflict and end the alleged proxy war.
The remarks reflect COCOMI’s continued position on the ongoing crisis in Manipur and its demand for a peaceful resolution.
