JAC Demands Video-Recorded Post-Mortem in Sofiya Death Case, Warns of Agitation
The JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Sofiya demands a video-recorded post-mortem and questioning of family members, warning of intensified agitation within 24 hours.

IMPHAL, October 30, 2026: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Brutal Killing of Sofiya has warned of intensified agitation if its demands concerning the suspicious death of a 30-year-old woman are not addressed within 24 hours.
The warning was issued by Nasim Bhanu, a member of the Kshetrigao Bengoon Awang Leikai Meira Paibi, while addressing a sit-in protest organised by the JAC at Kshetrigao Bengoon Awang Leikai on Friday, demanding justice for Sofiya.
According to the protest organisers, Sofiya, 30, a resident of Kshetrigao Bengoon Awang Leikai and wife of Sharuk Khan, 34, of Kairang Tera Makhong, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on October 24.
The JAC had submitted a memorandum containing three demands to the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, on October 27. However, alleging that no action had been taken so far, the committee, along with local clubs and Meira Paibi members, organised the sit-in protest.
The JAC is demanding that Sofiya’s post-mortem examination be video-recorded and that a copy of the post-mortem report be shared with the committee. It has also demanded the questioning of her husband, Sharuk Khan, and all family members as part of the investigation.
Addressing the gathering, Nasim Bhanu warned that the JAC would launch intense agitation if its demands were not fulfilled within 24 hours.
She further stated that, as per a resolution adopted by the JAC, the victim’s body would not be claimed until justice was delivered.
The demands and allegations raised by the JAC come as the circumstances surrounding Sofiya’s death remain a matter of concern for the local community.
