Karam Bhanumati Receives Warm Reception at Imphal Airport After Winning Pharma Ratna Award 2026
Former Government Polytechnic Imphal Pharmacy HOD Karam Bhanumati receives a warm reception after winning the Pharma Ratna Award 2026, while APTI Manipur highlights the need for a government pharmacy degree college.

IMPHAL, November 4, 2026: Karam Bhanumati, former Head of the Department of Pharmacy at Government Polytechnic Imphal, received a warm reception at Imphal International Airport following her achievement in receiving the prestigious Pharma Ratna Award 2026 from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
The reception programme was organised by the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), Manipur, on October 27 to honour her contribution to pharmaceutical education and public service.
Calls for Government Pharmacy Degree College
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Nepram Swarnalata, Selection Grade Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at Government Polytechnic Imphal, highlighted the need to establish a government-run pharmaceutical degree college in Manipur.
She pointed out that Government Polytechnic Imphal had remained the state's only institution offering pharmacy education for several years, with courses limited to the diploma level. This, she said, had created difficulties for students seeking to pursue higher studies in the discipline.
Dr. Swarnalata expressed optimism over the establishment of several pharmacy colleges in the state since 2020. However, she observed that Manipur continued to lag behind other states in pharmaceutical education.
According to her, the state currently has 10 private pharmacy colleges and one government institution. She stressed that establishing a government pharmaceutical degree college would provide better opportunities for students and strengthen the state's pharmaceutical education sector.
Recognition of 25 Years of Service
Dr. Swarnalata appreciated the Pharmacy Council of India for recognising Bhanumati's long-standing contribution to pharmaceutical education and public service. She also expressed gratitude to PCI President Dr. Montu Kumar M. Patel for selecting her for the award.
She noted that the recognition honoured Bhanumati's dedication over 25 years of service in the field of pharmacy in Manipur.
The programme also acknowledged the contributions of APTI Manipur members, organisers and well-wishers who helped make the reception programme a success.
