CM Khemchand: Manipur to form a committee of all 36 communities
He made the announcement while honouring hill chiefs during the Mera Hou Chongba festival.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on October 24 that the state will set up a committee with members from all 36 of its communities, to promote peace, harmony and inclusive development.
He said the idea came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked whether any such body existed to bring the communities together. He was speaking at an event in Imphal to honour the chiefs of hill tribes, held after the opening of the Hill (Tribal) Chiefs' Guest House at Palace Compound.
The Chief Minister called the guest house a symbol of brotherhood between the hills and the valley. He was glad that people from the hill areas, including some who had been reluctant to visit Imphal, joined the festival this year.
