Researchers have described a new gecko species from the Umrangso area of Assam's Dima Hasao district. They named it Cyrtodactylus dimensis, and it belongs to the bent-toed gecko group.

The finding was published in the Journal of Threatened Taxa. The team included researchers from Mizoram University and other institutions, and they confirmed the species by combining a study of its body features with genetic analysis.

Field surveys took place in August 2025 and July 2026, with the geckos recorded in rocky micro-habitats around Umrangso.
